Peter Guterson (BPE '86) has demonstrated excellence in the sport of wrestling seemingly his entire life. After starting in the sport at an early age and winning his very first tournament at the age of 12 on the University of Calgary campus, Guterson officially became a Dino in 1981 and was an instant force, winning his first national championship as a rookie. He would go on to claim two more medals at the CIAU Championships, including another gold in 1986, to go with multiple Canada West medals in that same time span. He is also a five-time Canadian national champion and a nine-time national medalist. In 1987, Guterson won his first national title as well as being named the outstanding wrestler – repeating both feats an impressive 10 years later. After his highly decorated Dinos career, Guterson would continue to make his impact on the sport of wrestling felt, earning countless medals and championships, as well as serving as an Olympic alternate three times. At the age of 44, he won the Canadian Olympic Greco Trials. Born and raised in Calgary, Guterson is the first male wrestler from his hometown to win the national championship, an accomplishment he is very proud of to this day.
