Hall of Fame
First is the adjective to describe the contribution and awards that Kathy Truscott has done for the sport of women’s soccer.
A starting member on the first University of Calgary women’s soccer team when the team was a ‘club’ sport to when the team gained varsity status, Kathy excelled on the field and in the classroom. An extremely versatile player Kathy played both midfield and striker during her outstanding career.
She was the dominant player in women’s soccer during her brilliant five-year career with the Dinos. Truscott earned Canada West all-star honors on four occasions and was named Canada West Player of the Year in 1991. She became the first University of Calgary female soccer player to earn Canadian Interuniversity Sport all-Canadian honors, that occurring in 1991. She received the Dr. Dennis Kadatz Trophy as University of Calgary Female Athlete of the Year in 1992 becoming the first female soccer player to receive such recognition.
An outstanding player with incredible quickness and a knack for scoring goals, Kathy tallied 18 goals in 35 Conference games with the Dinos against Canada West competition. During her career she was a member of three teams that were Conference Finalists.
Kathy also had the distinction of being the first University of Calgary female player to compete on the international stage. She was a member of Canada’s World University Student (FISU) Games team that competed in Buffalo, New York in 1993. She also played several international contests for Canada’s National team.
Truscott graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in geography and environmental science. She also has taken post-graduate courses in architecture and education.
With her induction into the Hall of Fame Kathy becomes the first female soccer player to achieve such an honor.
