In his first CIS football game, cornerback Adam Laurensse made a huge difference for the University of Calgary Dinos’ defence.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound defensive back from Sherwood Park, Alta. was in on four tackles Saturday afternoon in Vancouver, but it was his two interceptions that snuffed out UBC drives that stood out as the Dinos improved to 1-0 with a 41-31 win over the Thunderbirds.
The first interception took place in the early stages of the second quarter, while his second pick came late in the third at a critical stage in the game. With the Dinos trailing 14-10, Laurensse hauled in an errant Carson Williams pass at the UBC 37 yard line and returned it to the 22. On the very next play, Brett Blaszko caught a 22-yard pass from Eric Dzwilewski to put the Dinos up 17-14, and Calgary never trailed again en route to the victory.

For his efforts, Laurensse was named the Canada West defensive player of the week.

Laurensse and the Dinos head east to face the Regina Rams Friday night in Week 2 action, live on CanadaWest.TV.
