Third-year running Calgary running back racked up 235 yards along the groung, including touchdown runs of 69 yards and four yards during the Dinos’ 38-14 win over Saint Mary’s at the Uteck Bowl in Halifax on Saturday.
Walter, a Science major at the U of C, was a dominant force all afternoon, keeping the entire Eastern Huskies’ defence guessing and wreaking havoc as the offence picked up over 500 yards on the day.
With Calgary already up 12-0 late in the first quarter, the 5’10’’ back rumbled through the Saint Mary’s defence, all the way to the house for a 69-yard scamper and an insurmountable 19-0 edge for the visitors. After Devon Jones scored for the home side to close the gap, Walters finished off a three-minute, 87-yard drive with a four-yard run to make it 26-7.
Calgary now moves on to face the Queen’s Gaels, who upset top-ranked Laval in Saturday’s Mitchell Bowl in Kingston, Ont. The 45th Vanier Cup goes Saturday, Nov. 28 at Université Laval in Quebec City, a game that can be seen live acorss Canada on TSN.
