Third-year halfback Chudi Nzekwu was the defensive leader for the University of Calgary Dinos in Saturday’s 35-24 victory over the Manitoba Bisons.
Nzekwu, a former soccer player at SAIT in Calgary, posted seven solos and one assisted tackle Saturday afternoon. Impressively, Nzekwu held the Bison receivers to fewer than 10 yards on all but one of those plays, and only twice did Manitoba gain first down yardage.
The total was easily Nzekwu’s top statistical performance of the season, bringing his 2009 total to 20.5 tackles.
The Dinos (5-1), who clinched a playoff spot with Saturday’s win, enjoy the bye this week before facing the Regina Rams at home in the Shaw TV Game of the Week on Saturday, Oct. 24.
