Introduction
Building on
ii' taa'poh'to'p, UCalgary’s Indigenous Strategy, Dinos Athletics and the Faculty of Kinesiology are seeking proposals for the creation of an alternate Dinos logo that honours, recognizes, and reflects the peoples of Treaty 7 territory and the accomplishments of Indigenous athletes.
The selected proponent will be expected to develop artwork that aligns with the commitments outlined in
ii’taa’poh’to’p, including honouring Indigenous Peoples’ stories, knowledge, and traditions. The artwork should contribute to fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and culturally competent campus community that promotes Indigenous ways of knowing.
Proponents should also consider how the artwork and its accompanying narrative can support increased awareness and understanding of the histories and worldviews of the Indigenous Peoples of Treaty 7 territory, including the importance of connection to the land.
This initiative is also intended to reflect the University of Calgary’s commitment to Truth and Reconciliation. Proponents should consider alignment with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action, particularly Call to Action 87, which calls upon organizations to educate the public by sharing the stories and contributions of Indigenous athletes.

The Origins of "Dinos"

- Participating in feedback and refinement processes with University stakeholders
- Preparing final deliverables suitable for multiple applications and formats

- The design should honour, recognize, and reflect the peoples of Treaty 7 territory
