Third-year middle Graham Vigrass was the main man for Dinos volleyball this weekend, leading Calgary to a split on the road which included a 3-0 blanking of defending national champion Alberta, snapping the Golden Bears’ 24-match conference win streak. It was Calgary’s first win over Alberta since January 2002.
In Friday night’s 3-1 Alberta win, Vigrass posted a respectable nine kills. But it was Saturday night where he shone, pounding 14 kills in just three sets to lead all players, including two key kills down the stretch in the third and final set. He added a service ace and a pair of blocks Saturday as well.
The Dinos, who entered the weekend ranked No. 4 in the CIS Top 10 poll, should move up after splitting with the No. 1 Golden Bears as Calgary heads into an early bye week. The Dinos take a break from competition before hosting the Manitoba Bisons in their home opener Nov. 6-7 in the Jack Simpson Gym.
