The No. 1 team in the nation University of Calgary Dinos men's hockey team (14-2) returns to the ice one last time this semester, playing a home-and-home with city rival Mount Royal (8-5-1) this weekend. Friday's opener will take place down the road at Flames Community Arenas, while Saturday's first-semester finale is the Dinos' first home game since Nov. 8. Both games are set for a 7 p.m. puck drop.

With their win streak running to nine after a weekend sweep of Manitoba last time out, the Dinos move to No. 1 in the latest U SPORTS top 10 - the first time they've been the top team in the nation since doing so the final seven weeks in a row during the 2022-23 season. Prior to that, Calgary also was ranked No. 1 for five weeks during the 2013-14 campaign.

It has been an obviously impressive start to the season for head coach Mark Howell's bunch. The Dinos are on a nine-game win streak, outscoring their opponents during that stretch by a score of 44-14. While Adam Kydd is leading the nation in points with 31 through the first 16 games, Calgary has proven to be incredibly balanced thus far this season. An incredible 23 players have at least one point this season, with 19 different players tallying at least one goal.

Mount Royal comes into the weekend tied with Saskatchewan for second place in the East Division, though the Cougars have played two more games. MRU has won its last five in a row to move to 8-5-1 on the year.

The Dinos and Cougars met for one weekend series earlier this year, with Calgary taking the opener 2-1 at home before nearly turning in an impressive comeback before falling 3-2 on the road.

The Dinos women's hockey team (11-3-2) carries a four-game win streak into the final week of the first semester, taking on No. 4 Mount Royal (11-2-1) for a home-and-home this weekend. The Dinos host the Cougars Friday from Father David Bauer Arena at 7 p.m. before Saturday's 5 p.m. rematch at Flames Community Arenas.

Calgary moved into first place in the East Division standings last weekend following a sweep of Manitoba. While the Dinos have played two more games than the Cougars, they hold a one-point lead in the divisional standings over their city rivals heading into the weekend.

While much has been understandably made of the offensive explosion of former U SPORTS Rookie of the Year Sydney Mercier, who now has scored in five straight games and has 11 goal on the year, the headline for the Dinos this season has been the play of their goaltenders. Fourth-year Amelia Awad continues to shine, owning a 0.89 goals-against average through nine games in net while racking up a Canada West-leading 255 saves. Her .970 save percentage is tops in all of U SPORTS and her .889 win percentage ranks third in the nation. A pair of rookies are also making a strong impression behind Awad. Maisie Cope owns a 2-2-2 record with a 1.32 goals-against average and just picked up her first career shutout, while fellow newcomer Alyssa Barrette made 19 saves for a shutout win in her collegiate debut two weeks ago.

Mount Royal saw its nine-game win streak snapped last weekend out in B.C. as they split with Trinity Western. The loss was just one of three suffered by the Cougars all season. MRU has conceded just 18 goals all year - second fewest in Canada West, thus far.

The opening Crowchild Classic weekend series between the women's hockey programs finished as a split, with each team winning on the road. A year ago, MRU won four of the six regular season head-to-head matchups.

Saturday, Nov. 29 | Calgary vs. UFV | Jack Simpson Gym | 4:00 PM | Watch | Live Stats

The Dinos women's volleyball team (3-5) is home for the first time since Oct. 18 as they get set to host UFV (5-3) for a weekend doubleheader. Friday's match is slated for a 6:45 p.m. start time following the men's game, while Saturday's contest will start the afternoon action at 4 p.m.

Calgary got a big bounce-back win last Saturday in Winnipeg, sweeping the Wesmen 3-0 one night after getting swept in the same gym. The turn around was impressive, as the Dinos limited the mistakes and hit a dominant .353 in the second set that saw them win 25-12.

The Dinos will now go up against one of the most consistent foes in Canada West over the last three-plus seasons. UFV currently sits at 5-3 after taking six of seven sets last time out over UBCO. The Cascades are coming off a bye weekend and have two of the best servers in the country in Mandi Feist and Cailin Bitter.

UFV has won all six conference regular-season matchups with the Dinos, including a pair of 3-0 wins in Abbotsford last season. Calgary does hold a 3-1 win over the Cascades back in the 2022 Canada West postseason.

Saturday, Nov. 29 | Calgary vs. UFV | Jack Simpson Gym | 5:45 PM | Watch | Live Stats

It's a playoff rematch for Calgary's men's volleyball team (2-6), hosting UFV (0-8) inside the Jack Simpson Gym this weekend. Friday's first serve is set for 5 p.m., while Saturday's rematch is scheduled for a 5:45 p.m. start following the women's contest.

The Dinos will look to end a six-game losing skid this weekend, falling 3-1 in both sets at Winnipeg last weekend. Calgary opened the 2025-26 season at home with a sweep of MacEwan and have been on the road ever since. This weekend will mark the first home game since Oct. 18.

UFV comes into the weekend with an 0-8 record and coming off a bye. Last time out, the Cascades - who lost eight players from last year's playoff squad - won their first two sets of the season in a pair of 3-1 losses to league-leading UBCO.

Calgary and UFV met in the Canada West Play-In a season ago, with the Dinos taking the best-of-three in two at home. That flipped a regular-season sweep by the Cascades in Abbotsford earlier last season. The two programs have only battled on the court eight total times across all competitions, with each team owning four wins.

The No. 4 Dinos women's basketball team (8-0) will look to continue their undefeated start to the season as they head to Manitoba (1-6) to close out the first semester. Tip time from the Investors Athletic Group Centre is 5 p.m. MT Friday and 3 p.m. MT Saturday.

It's been an impressive start under first-year head coach Sarah Besselink. She has the Dinos off to an 8-0 start in conference play to sit in a four-way tie for the top spot in the loaded Prairie Division where all four teams are ranked in the latest U SPORTS top 10. The Dinos rank fifth in the nation in scoring and seventh in defence with an impressive margin of victory of 23.9 through the first eight games of the regular season.

Amélie Collin stole the show last weekend - literally. With 11 takeaways in the weekend sweep of Winnipeg, the fifth-year guard broke the Dinos' program record for career steals. Collin now has 259 career steals, surpassing former record-holder and Dinos Hall of Famer Leighann Doan mark of 253. Collin's total now ranks her sixth in Canada West history with 12 games left in the regular season.

Manitoba comes into the weekend at 1-6 on the year, being swept by Regina and Saskatchewan before earning a split with Lethbridge last time out. The Bisons are coming off a bye and have one more game at home against Winnipeg next weekend before going on break.

Last season, the Dinos swept the Bisons in Calgary during the regular season before earning an 89-64 postseason win in Abbotsford. The Dinos haven't dropped a regular-season contest to Manitoba since Jan. 7, 2005.

The Dinos men's hoops team (4-4) will look to get back on track before going on break as they travel to Winnipeg to take on Manitoba (4-3) for the final two games of the first semester. Friday's start time is scheduled for 7 p.m. MT before Saturday's action is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. MT. Both will follow the women's games.

Calgary is looking to get back on track as they've dropped three in a row - the longest losing skid for head coach Dan Vanhooren's program since a five-game streak in the middle of the 2022-23 season.

Manitoba comes to campus with a 4-3 record, having won three of their last four. The Bisons were on a bye last week and split with Lethbridge their last time out.

The Dinos and Bisons split a head-to-head in January of last season. Manitoba won the opener, 82-75, before Calgary responded with a 102-92 win in Game 2.

The Dinos swimming team is off to the 2025 Canada West Championships this weekend. This year's championship meet will be hosted by Lethbridge inside the Max Bell Regional Aquatic Centre. The three-day meet starts Friday before team champions are crowned on Sunday.

Calgary has claimed 31 total Canada West banners between men's and women's swimming, all time. The Dinos men's program won back-to-back titles in 2022 & 2023 - the 21st and 22nd in program history. The women's program brought home their latest banner one year prior in 2021.

Since Mike Blondal was named head coach of the Dinos back in 1994, the Dinos have finished as one of the top-two program in Canada West an incredible 57 out of 60 times.
Dinos Wrestling
Friday, Nov. 28 | Huskies Duals | Education Gym

Saturday, Nov. 29 | Huskie Open | Education Gym

The Dinos wrestling team wraps up its 2025 schedule this weekend before heading on break with a trip to Saskatoon for two days of wrestling at the University of Saskatchewan. The Dinos and Huskies will go head-to-head on Friday before a tournament in the same on-campus gym Saturday.

Calgary was dominant in its first conference action of the year last month at home. The Dinos dominated their dual meet in their season opener and followed that up by the women's team taking first and the men's placing second at their home tournament. In all, Dinos' wrestlers won a combined 69 matches over the opening two days of competition.
