CALGARY – The University of Calgary recognized 214 Dinos student-athletes for their academic success Tuesday morning at the Academic All-Canadian Breakfast in MacEwan Hall, as 204 earned U SPORTS Academic All-Canadian status and 10 golfers received Dinos All-Academic honours.
The 214 total is the second-highest ever for the University of Calgary, representing over one-third of all student-athletes and bringing the total to nearly 3,600 since the program's inception in 1990. To become an Academic All-Canadian or Dinos All-Academic, a student-athlete must achieve an average of 80 percent or higher while representing their institution on a varsity team.
"To achieve academic excellence at the university level is no small feat, but to do it while also pursuing sport at a high level is even more impressive," Dinos Director of Athletics
Ben Matchett said. "The achievements of our 214 Academic All-Canadians and Dinos All-Academic student-athletes in 2024-25 highlight not only the growing academic stature of UCalgary, but the incredible dedication of these future leaders as well. We congratulate them on their success."
Also announced at Tuesday's celebration were the recipients of this year's Dinos Top Academic All-Canadian award – honouring one male and one female student-athlete with the best combination of academic and athletic excellence. The 2024-25 winners are
Nate Beauchemin from football and
Gabriela Cross from women's wrestling. Beauchemin and Cross will now move forward as UCalgary's nominees within Canada West for the U SPORTS Top 8 Academic All-Canadian awards.
The Faculty of Arts led all programs, with 53 students earning Academic All-Canadian status, followed closely by Kinesiology with 47. The Haskayne School of Business tallied 31 this year, with the Schulich School of Engineering (28) and Science (23) close behind.
