The home opener is finally here for the University of Calgary Dinos women's basketball team (4-0), as they bring their undefeated start to the season to their home court to take on Fraser Valley (2-3) for two games. Friday's opener is set for a 6 p.m. start, while Saturday's rematch will begin at 4 p.m.
Calgary is off to a blistering start to the 2025-26 conference season. The Dinos are up to XXXXX in the latest U SPORTS rankings after two more lopsided wins this past weekend, this time at Brandon. The Dinos are now 4-0 in Canada West with an average margin of victory of 26.0.
UFV comes to campus with a 2-3 conference record, so far. The Cascades are coming off a six-point loss at home to UBCO this past weekend, and own wins over Victoria (65-62) and Trinity Western (60-51) in the early going. UFV graduated six players from last year's squad that knocked the Dinos out of the playoffs in a CW quarterfinal matchup. Fifth-year forward Julia Tuchscherer leads her team and ranks third in all of Canada West so far, averaging 18.8 points per game.
The Dinos hold a 10-5 conference record over UFV, though the two teams haven't played a conference game since early January of 2023 with a weekend split in Abbotsford. Since then, the two teams have met four times in non-conference action and once in the postseason. Calgary has claimed all four of the non-conference head to heads, including a 63-47 win at the Nisga'a Nation six weeks ago in what was first-year head coach Sarah Besselink's first game coaching the Dinos.

The Dinos men's hoops team (3-1) will play a conference game on its own hard wood for the first time since before claiming last year's latest Canada West banner, hosting UFV (2-3) Friday at 8 p.m. before Saturday's rematch at 6 p.m. Both games will take place following the women's games.
Calgary is off to a 3-1 start to the season after a split at Brandon last time out. The Dinos offence has shown it has no problem producing despite a host of new players that are still learning how to play together, as they are averaging a whopping 85.8 points per game so far this season - second most in Canada West and sixth in the nation.
UFV comes to Calgary with a 2-3 conference record, thus far. The Cascades dropped their first three of the year to UBC, Victoria and Trinity Western before rebounding for a win over the Spartans and a 97-69 pasting of UBCO this past Friday. Third-year forward Ismael Hernandez leads UFV in the early going in both scoring (16.0 points per game) and rebounding (8.0 rebounds per game).
The Dinos and Cascades have not faced each other at any level since a weekend set in Abbotsford back in January of 2023 that saw the two teams split. That marked just the fourth loss to UFV fro Calgary since the Cascades joined Canada West in 2008, holding an 11-4 edge in conference games all-time.

The Dinos men's hockey team (10-2) will look to keep things rolling as they travel to B.C. for a weekend set at Trinity Western (1-8-1). Friday's puck drop is set for 8 p.m. MT from the Langley Events Centre, while Saturday's rematch is set for an 8:15 p.m. MT start from the Aldergrove Credit Union Community Centre.
Calgary is coming off another impressive weekend, sweeping then-No. 3 Saskatchewan. The Dinos trailed 2-0 early in both games, only to buckle down and not concede again - winning 4-2 on Friday before a shootout win on Saturday.
The 10-2 start is the best start for the program since going 13-0 to begin the 2013-14 campaign.
It's been a hard-luck start to the season for Trinity Western, as they come into the weekend with a 1-8-1 conference record. They are coming off their lone win, a shootout victory over Alberta at home this past Saturday.
The Dinos are 14-0 all-time against Canada West's newest hockey program, going a perfect 6-0 against the Spartans a season ago, with a combined score of 33-11 across those six contests.

The Dinos women's hockey squad (7-3-2) will look to continue its strong start to the season, hosting Trinity Western (7-3) for a showdown between the No. 2 team in each division at Father David Bauer Arena. Friday's opener will take place at 7 p.m. with a quick turnaround for a 2 p.m. start Saturday.
Calgary is coming off one of its most impressive offensive performances in a decade with a 7-2 win at Saskatchewan this past Friday. The seven goals are the most for the Dinos in a game since lighting the lamp nine times in a 9-0 win at Lethbridge back in 2014. The Dinos couldn't quite finish off the Huskies for a sweep on Saturday, falling 2-1 in overtime. The Scarlet & Gold have now split five of its six weekend series to start the season, winning every single series opener, thus far.
Trinity Western comes to Calgary ranked XXXX in the latest U SPORTS top-10. The Spartans are coming off a home sweep of Alberta, winning 4-2 and 4-0 as they have now won five of their last six and sit in second place in the West Division. Chloe Reid ranked third in Canada West with 11 points (six goals, five assists), while Kara Yackel sits sixth in those rankings with nine points (five goals, four assists).
TWU went 5-1 against the Dinos a season ago, winning the last four, including a convincing sweep in Calgary back in late January with finals of 6-1 and 4-1. Calgary will look for its first home win over the Spartans since a 4-2 victory back on Dec. 2, 2023.
