VANCOUVER – The University of Calgary Dinos women's field hockey team concluded it's season with a 5-0 defeat to the UBC Thunderbirds on Sunday afternoon at Wright Field
UBC scored in each of the final three quarters, improving their season record to 5-0-1 on the season, while the Dinos finish 0-8.
Calgary's defence held firm early as UBC controlled much of the possession in the opening quarter, but the Dinos kept the Thunderbirds off the scoreboard and withstood further pressure to start the second.
The breakthrough came in the 24th minute, when UBC worked the ball into the circle and Puneet Litt finished off a series of quick passes to make it 1-0. The Thunderbirds doubled the lead at the 30-minute mark, as Sukhman Hundal scored on a penalty corner for her fourth goal of the season, a team high for UBC.
UBC captain Riley Brown forced a turnover in the Dinos' half and was tripped in the circle, earning a penalty stroke that Kenzie Girgis converted in the 41st minute to make it 3-0. Mackenna Brown opened the fourth-quarter scoring in the 48th minute to extend the lead to 4-0.
UBC was awarded a second penalty stroke in the 58th minute after a foul by Dinos goalkeeper Madison Forest, who was shown a yellow card. Micaela Camacho came on in goal, and Girgis converted the stroke to set the final score. Forest played the first 58 minutes for Calgary.
UBC will host the Victoria Vikes on Saturday, Oct. 24.
