LETHBRIDGE, Alta. – It was a dominating showing by the Calgary Dinos cross country teams at the season opening meet Saturday afternoon.
Running at the ACAC Running Room Grand Prix, the Dinos posted eight of the top-10 finishers on the women's side, while the men's squad added another six of the first nine finishers despite battling the heat in the first action of the 2025 season.
Rookie
Jenna Conrad finished with the win in her first collegiate race, breaking the tape in the women's 6k race at 24:42. Last season's U SPORTS All-Rookie selection
Sophie Jensen was close behind, finishing runner-up in 24:47.
Another rookie in
Marcail Philp finished fourth in her debut at 25:40, followed by
Eloisa Castillo (5th / 25:49),
Meagan Smith (6th / 26:03),
Jordis Hickie (7th / 26:06),
Lauren Westlake (9th / 26:26) and
Lucy Frasca (10th / 26:34) as the Scarlet & Gold controlled this race.
On the men's side, it was
Max Cook leading the way for Calgary with a third-place finish in the 8k race in 28:22.
Braden Foley was close behind in 28:38 for fourth, while
Jackson Mathews (6th / 29:25),
Sam Prezio (7th / 29:33) and
Kai Deausy (8th / 29:36) rounded out the scoring on the day.
Edward Healy (9th / 29:47),
Phoenix Bouma (11th / 30:34),
Jonah Salvatore (12th / 30:39) and
Quinn Schulz (15th / 31:15) all also ran well in the first action of the year.
The Dinos now turn their attention to the annual Stewart Cup, hosted this year by Calgary on Oct. 4 just down the road from the UCalgary campus at Canmore Park.
