VICTORIA –
Jenna Conrad was named the Canada West Rookie of the Year to headline a strong day of competition by the University of Calgary Dinos at the 2025 Canada West Cross Country Championships, hosted by the University of Victoria on the scenic campus of Royal Roads University.
Conrad was one of four Dinos to earn all-league honours on the busy day of racing, joining
Chloe Turner,
Ethan Meyer and
Max Cook.
Turner led the Dinos women with a seventh-place finish overall in the women's 8k race to earn Canada West First Team All-Star honours. This marks the second time the third year for the Dinos has finished as a first-teamer, crossing the line in 30:11.4 on Saturday.
Second-year standout
Sophie Jensen was not far behind, finishing in 30:58.0 for 16th to just miss a spot on the all-league team. Then came Conrad. The star from Pense, Sask., clocked a time of 31:05.1 to finish as the top first year on the day, giving the Dinos their second CW Rookie of the Year honours in the last three years (Turner, 2023).
Csenia Irvin (32:34.0) and
Eloisa Castillo (33:48.2) rounded out this year's scoring as the Dinos women placed fourth overall.
On the men's side, it was Meyer and Cook who let the way. The duo both finished as CW Second Team All-Stars. Meyer crossed the line first for Calgary in 26:36.7, just ahead of Cook at 26:41.5. This marks the third time in four years Cook has earn all-star status, while Meyer earns his first honours since being on the all-rookie squad in 2023.
Braden Foley was next up for the Dinos, finishing in 27:17.8, followed shortly by
Kai Deausy (27:17.8) and
Edward Healy (27:29.1) to round out this year's scoring.
The Dinos men placed fifth overall at this year's championships.
Up next is a trip to Quebec for the 2025 U SPORTS Championships, held Nov. 8 and hosted by Sherbrooke University.
