Neumann's Notes: Dinos sign Billy McCready

CALGARY – Billy MacCready wanted to stay home and play post secondary football. He will get that chance with the University of Calgary Dinos.

The 6-foot-6, 205-pound quarterback signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent to enroll and play football with the Dinos.

MacCready is a product of the Bulldogs and Colts programs in the Calgary Minor Football Association where he was coached by former University of Calgary linebacker Biagio Iannace before attending Bishop O'Bryne High School in southeast Calgary playing for the Bobcats. Iannace was a member of the 1983 and 1985 national championship teams.

Unfortunately, MacCready's past two years have hampered by injuries requiring a pair of surgeries. He attended the Dinos prospect camp this past Spring and was the Offensive MVP for the Colts. In addition, he received a Calgary Spring Football League Scholarship and was the Bulldogs MVP in 2019.

"I felt comfortable staying home and going to school," stated MacCready, who turned 18 this past December and plans to study real estate in the Haskayne School of Business.

MacCready is from a football family. His father is Derek teaches school at Bishop O'Bryne and had a lengthy career in Canadian Football League, winning a Grey Cup with Hamilton in 1999. Derek was selected sixth overall in the 1989 CFL Draft by the British Columbia Lions. After retiring from football, he returned to school at Western University and also helped coached the Dinos defensive line when Tony Fasano was head coach.

MacCready has a younger brother who plays rugby for the Dinos. In addition to playing football, Billy likes to golf and has played competitive volleyball and baseball.

Dinos head coach Ryan Sheahan is excited about having MacCready join the Scarlet & Gold.

"Billy is a 6'6" quarterback with a big arm," stated Sheahan. "He has demonstrated he can make plays with both his arm and feet."

Billy is the son of Derek and Monica MacCready and is the youngest of three siblings.
