Spring Camp opens at McMahon Wednesday

CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos football program returns to the field for the annual Spring Camp at McMahon Stadium this week.

The five-day camp opens Wednesday, April 29 and runs through Sunday, May 3, culminating with the annual scrimmage Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m, which will be open to the public.

"Overall, I'm very excited about this group," Dinos third-year head coach Ryan Sheahan said heading into camp. "We've got a very young nucleus for the 2026 campaign and it's been a very long offseason filled with hard work. Guys really put themselves to the test in the weight room, on the track, and in the bubble, so this is really their first taste of it for some of those young guys. They really step into significant roles on our ball club and part of the excitement is discovery - who's going to be the one to fill the shoes of some graduating players and some players on the verge of being drafted?

"I think that the excitement is infectious all the way down the hall. These guys are anxious and excited to get out on the field and show what they've got and really prove to themselves and each other how much hard work they put in this offseason."

After a busy offseason, the Dinos will get their first on-field look at the majority of their recruiting class before heading into the summer.

"I'm looking to see our state of readiness as a club," Sheahan said. "We're going to have some young blood in some key spots and I'm not looking at that as a negative - I'm looking at as a positive. We've done some great recruiting over the past two years. We've kind of been in rebuild mode and now I feel that the rebuild is coming to a close. We've got a strong nucleus, some key vets and some good positions and some hot young talent that's looking to make a name for themselves. I'm looking to evaluate our state of readiness and see how excited this group is to take the field and get out there, test themselves and push their limits in Canada's most competitive football conference."

Spring Camp is in the middle of a busy period for the Dinos football program. The Canadian CFL Draft will take Tuesday night, with as many as six Dinos projected to be selected. Following Spring Camp, a number of Dinos coaches will travel to various CFL camps. The busy stretch wraps up with the 22nd annual East-West Bowl, which showcases the top U SPORTS football prospects for the 2027 CFL Draft. This year's East-West Bowl is scheduled for Saturday, May 9 and is once again hosted by Waterloo.
