VANCOUVER – Wright Field was home to an end-to-end game on Sunday morning, as the UBC Thunderbirds and Calgary Dinos doubled the goal output from their previous matchup. When the dust finally settled, it was the T-Birds walking away with a 5-3 win.
UBC was first on the board, as Sydney Le scored just two minutes in for her conference-leading eighth goal of the season.
Danielle McBean doubled up the lead in the sixth minute and Kaia Cooper stretched things to 3-0 early in the second quarter.
However, the Dinos responded immediately, getting on the board with a penalty corner score by
Allegra Nelson. It was just the second goal of the entire season conceded up to that point by the 'Birds, and it galvanized the visitors, who played with renewed energy the rest of the game.
After a UBC goal early in the second half, the Dinos once again bounced back as five minutes later
Nina Khalfan let rip a powerful shot from a penalty corner that found its way into the back of the net to make it 4-2.
Khalfan added her second of the game in the fourth to continue to keep things close at 5-3, but time just ran out on the comeback effort by Calgary.
Up next, the Dinos travel to Victoria next weekend in the regular season finale series with the Vikes, starting Saturday.
