Dinos wrap up home season with Seniors' Day

CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos closed out their home schedule with their strongest performance of the season, holding a talented UBC Thunderbirds team to four goals in a 4-0 defeat at Hawkings Field.

The Thunderbirds capped off a successful weekend in Calgary, securing two victories in their first contests of the season. The Dinos showed well at both ends of the field on Sunday, holding UBC off the scoresheet in the first quarter before generating several quality scoring chances in the second half.

Sunday's game was special for the Dinos as they celebrated three graduating senior players: team captain Jadyn Campbell, defender Ella Blanke, and goalkeeper Alana Madrid

"We have really come together so well. We're like sisters out here," said Madrid. "It felt amazing to make history with this team. We have so much to build on, and I am excited for the future of this program."

After a scoreless opening 15 minutes of play, UBC wasted no time finding the back of the net in the second quarter. The Thunderbirds quickly moved the ball down the wing, creating space to find Sydney Le in the middle, who capitalized on the opportunity.

Toward the end of the half, Danielle McBean fired a powerful shot from a wide angle for a two-goal lead.

In the second half, Riley Brown and Birkley Anderson each scored a goal, securing the Thunderbirds' 4-0 win.

Blanke, who has been part of the Dinos for four years, expressed a bittersweet feeling about her final home game.

"My best memories are just showing up for my teammates every day and seeing how we support each other through everything."

The Dinos will have a week off before returning to action Sept. 28-29 with games in Vancouver versus the Thunderbirds.

UBC will visit Vancouver Island next weekend to face the Victoria Vikes, Sept. 21-22.
