Dinos ringette season wraps up celebrations

CALGARY – As the season came to a close this year, Dinos ringette achieved great success – coming in first place in the Open A division of the yearly Cora Classic ringette tournament, beating Impact in a thrilling 5-2 game. Since 2009, the Calgary Open Ringette Association has hosted the Cora Classic – a championship tournament held at Winsport with all Open divisions competing. The Dinos were exceptionally proud to have won the tournament, beating the previous 2023 champions and securing the first ever Cora Classic win for the University of Calgary. After going undefeated on the weekend, the final game was a fantastic conclusion to a hard fought tournament, reflective of another successful season for Dinos ringette.

Coming in third in the CORA league, Dinos ringette celebrated several major victories this year; winning the Battle of the Bridges tournament in Lethbridge, finishing in third place at the University Challenge Cup, competing at the provincial championships in Leduc and going undefeated to win the Cora Classic. The Dinos finished with exceptional stats having played 18 league games on the season and going 10-3-5. We are all very proud of the athletes, coaching staff, volunteers and support for the incredible success this season.

In particular, we would like to highlight our Dinos veterans leaving us this year: Emma Novak and Lindsay Jone. Dinos ringette has been fortunate to have both for the past several years. Their impact on both the team and the University of Calgary community has been monumental. We were exceptionally proud to recognize Lindsay in her achievement of the Competitive Club Student Athlete Award, given in honour of a student athlete who has dedicated countless hours to the improvement of their sporting community, and for their academic and athletic successes. We know both Emma and Lindsay will go on to do amazing things in life, and know that they will always be considered part of the Dinos ringette family.

For anybody who is considering joining the Dinos, open tryouts are announced mid-late summer on our social media and occur within the first few weeks of September. The program here is
proud to celebrate the upcoming 23rd year of Dinos ringette at the University of Calgary. Our regular season games are played within the Calgary Open A division, with a yearly trip over winter holidays to compete at the University Challenge Cup against other universities all over Canada.
