VICTORIA – A shutout from the University of Victoria women's field hockey team aided the Vikes to a 4-0 win over the University of Calgary, Sept. 30, on the UVic Field Hockey Turf.

Both the Vikes and Dinos move to 2-1-2 on the season after the decision and sit tied atop the league standings with nine points with three games each left to play.

Four different UVic players scored in the win, while Anais Chace recorded her first career shutout in goal. Alana Madrid played all 60 minutes in net for the Dinos.

Opening the scoring in the first quarter was Brooke Furtado, who gave Victoria a 1-0 lead in the third minute after a pass in from the right side found her alone against Madrid, besting the Dinos keeper for the goal.

The second quarter was full of penalty corner opportunities for the Vikes, garnering four opportunities in a six-minute span. However, Calgary's defence kept the ball out of the net on every attempt, keeping the score at 1-0.

The Dinos earned their first corner of the day in the second quarter, getting a good look from the top of the circle. Madison Gaffney took the shot, but Chace was able to make the save to keep UVic in front and send the game into halftime with a score of 1-0.

Chloe Langkammer opened the second-half scoring with a breakaway goal in the 35th minute for the 2-0 Victoria lead. 

Two Vikes goals in the fourth quarter coming via Melanie Robertson field goal and Anni Kleinschmidt penalty stroke sealed the win for the Vikes.

Victoria and Calgary face off again on Sunday at noon MT, again at the UVic Field Hockey Turf.
