Turner wins Canadian Cross Country Championship crown

OTTAWA - Chloe Turner continues to add to her trophy case less than a full semester into her collegiate career.

The Canada West Women's Rookie of the Year spent last weekend running at the 2023 Canadian Cross Country Championships, where she brought home yet another win in the U20 women's 6k race. Turner finished with a winning time of 21:34 - nine seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.Chloe Turner, ACXC Championships, podium, win

The finish is even more impressive considering a number of obstacles Turner had to overcome. Two weeks prior, the Dinos standout rookie had to miss the U SPORTS Championships after a bout of Covid. Then, during Saturday's race at Mooney's Bay Park in the nation's capital, she slipped and fell in a muddy spot during the first lap of the three-lap 6k run, only to turn around and convincingly win the race.

Turner wasn't the only current Dino at this year's ACXC Championships, as second-year standout Max Cook ran in the men's U20 race. The Chestermere, Alta. native crossed the line in 26:06, good for 17th out of 113 runners in this year's race.

The Dinos now turn their attention to the track & field season, which gets underway at home with the annual Dinos Opener set for Dec. 10 from the Jack Simpson Gym.
