VANCOUVER - The UBC Thunderbirds (3-3) edged the visiting Calgary Dinos (2-4-2) 1-0 with a late-game goal by senior Izzy Fraser at Wright Field on Sunday. With the win, the T-Birds completed a weekend sweep over the Dinos and remain in contention for the U SPORTS Nationals.
The lone goal of the match came in the 56th minute off a Kenzie Girgis-Fraser connection. Girgis stroked the ball past a line of Calgary defenders to find Fraser in the shooting circle. The fifth-year captain buried it into the net to secure a UBC win.
Calgary closes out the season with a 2-4-2 overall record to cap a promising season. The Dinos claimed their first win in over a decade earlier in the year on a memorable day at Hawkings Field and remained in contention down to the final day of the season.
Meanwhile the Thunderbirds head to Vancouver Island for their last games of the season on October 21-22.
