VANCOUVER – The UBC Thunderbirds defeated the University of Calgary Dinos field hockey team with a 3-1 score on home turf at Wright Field on Sunday afternoon.
Riley Brown opened the scoring for the T-Birds in the 11th minute, before Alyson Denis made it 2-0 'Birds eight minutes later. Sanehpreet Basra added to UBC's lead in the third quarter, before Calgary's
Madison Gaffney ended Hannah Rumble's shutout streak with a penalty shot in the fourth quarter of play.
Calgary will play their final two games of the regular season next weekend on Vancouver Island against the Victoria Vikes.
The Thunderbirds will have a weekend off before closing out the Canada West regular season against the defending champion Vikes on Oct. 22-23 at Wright Field.
