Dinos open season against potent offences

VICTORIA – The new-look University of Calgary Dinos field hockey team took to the UVic Field Hockey Turf for their first two games of the season on Friday in Victoria.

The Dinos dropped both matches 7-0 to the Victoria Vikes and UBC Thunderbirds.

Calgary opened the day with a matinee matchup with the Vikes. The Dinos earned back-to-back corners in the opening minutes of the game but were unable to convert on either try. Victoria's offence couldn't be stopped as they found the back of the net seven times and recorded their largest shutout win since Oct. 21, 2017.

The Dinos returned to action later Friday and faced a fresh Thunderbirds team. Like they had in their opener, Calgary earned two corners to start the game but was blocked on both chances by UBC.  The Thunderbirds' attack took over after that en route to a 7-0 result.

The Victoria field hockey tournament continues over the weekend with the Dinos playing the Vikes again on Saturday, followed by a rematch with UBC on Sunday.
