Dinos begin four-game road swing at UBC

| By:
CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos field hockey team begins the second half of their season this weekend as they depart for a pair of road games versus the UBC Thunderbirds.

The University of Victoria Vikes beat the Dinos last week at home in two very close matches.

First-year Vikes forward Leina Dueck scored both winning goals from last weekend's games through penalty corner shots.  Forward Sophia Murray of the Vikes displayed very competitive play throughout both matches as some aggressive play ensued amongst her and a couple of other Dinos players.

Returning key players for the Dinos include captain Marion Arnott, 2016 Canada West field hockey all-star team member, Sabrina Wong, and goalkeeper Ingrid Ulrich. Newcomers Emily Tollafield, who plays midfielder, and goalkeeper Madison Arbuckle are quite a strength to the team, showing notable skills thus far.

Despite the loss in both games against the Vikes, both matches saw notable performances by Dinos players and will help carry the team into the seasons' final two weekends.

Dinos head coach Peter Taylor views confident prospects for the remaining Canada West season.

"We will grow and improve every day, fighting throughout every game."

Taylor also commented on specifics regarding the team's training.

"There have been new technical changes implemented within the training plan to improve performance."

After their two games at UBC, the Dinos will wrap up their schedule with two road contests, Oct. 21-22 at Victoria.
