Vikes edge Dinos 2-1

| By:
CALGARY – The Victoria Vikes captured yet another win against the Dinos in their double header matchup on Sunday at Hawkings Field with the score of 2-1.

Despite facing another defeat from the Vikes, the Dinos came out stronger and put out a much better performance on Sunday's game compared to Saturday.

"I was happy with the improvement from the first half to the second," said Head Coach Peter Taylor. "It's still not our greatest game, we just showed a lot of intensity, a lot of fight."

In the 27th minute the first goal was shot by Celia van Nierop of the Victoria Vikes on a penalty corner. Dinos goalkeeper Ingrid Ulrich struggled to stop the ball from her quick hit into the net.

As the game progressed into the second half, the Dinos began to pick up the pace. In the 38th minute, second year Danica Heath found an open opportunity and put in not only her first goal of the season but the first goal for the team as well.

"It was pretty exciting," said Heath. "We practiced the play on the corners a lot and Marion did a great job passing it right where she had to."

Nearing the end of the game, with the score tied at 1-1, Jocelynne Charlton of the Vikes strucks a hit into the net in the 66th minute and finalized the score of 2-1.

Even though Ulrich allowed two goals, she still had an outstanding game, making major saves. Taylor was very pleased by her performance.

"She made a lot of saves, she was very aggressive and a vital part of keeping the score low."

The Dinos will continue at home next weekend as they take on the UBC Thunderbirds in another double header, including their #ucalgary50 alumni game Sunday, Oct. 2.
