Britton scores as Dinos fall to Vikes

VICTORIA — The University of Calgary Dinos scored the opener before falling 4-1 to the University of Victoria Vikes Sunday in Victoria.

With the win the Vikes end their regular season with a 4-2-2 record. The Dinos meanwhile, sit at 0-6-0.

Calgary got on the board first, 18 minutes into the contest. The initial Dinos shot from a penalty corner rebounded off a Vikes defender and fell to Jessica Britton, who buried the ball into the back of the net with authority.

The Vikes picked up the intensity after the Dinos goal but were unable to solve Ingrid Ulrich in the Dinos net for the remainder of the first half.

Ulrich made multiple saves to keep the Vikes off the board, none bigger than a leaping blocker save from a shot fired in by Rosie Beale right at half time.

The Vikes would finally make their pressure pay off right after the teams came back onto the field after halftime.

First-year Vike Jamie Emery who is from Calgary, powered the ball low and past Ulrich.

The Vikes appeared to take heart from their first goal and dominated possession for the rest of the game.

Kurianowicz gave the Vikes the lead just three minutes after the goal from Emery.

Another first year Vike, Camilla Benetar, added to insurance markers with her last goal coming in the last minute of play.

The Dinos will be back in action next weekend for a pair of games in Vancouver against the UBC Thunderbirds to wrap up the 2016 season.
