CALGARY
– A total of eight University of Calgary Dinos football players have been invited to attend the Canadian Football League's combines this spring, the league announced Wednesday.
Led by reigning Hec Crighton trophy winner
Andrew Buckley at quarterback, the Dinos will send five players directly to the national combine in Toronto at Varsity Stadium March 27-29: linebacker
Adam Konar, offensive linemen
Sukh Chungh and
Sean McEwen, and receiver
Jake Harty. All five are eligible for the upcoming CFL Canadian Draft, and both McEwen and Chungh have been consistently ranked among the top prospects in 2015 and are expected to go in the first round.
Buckley, McEwen, and Konar were all first team All-Canadians in CIS football in the 2014 season, while Chungh landed on the second team. Buckley became the first player in CIS history to win both the Hec Crighton Trophy and the Russ Jackson Award for citizenship, athletics, and academics last fall, and he did both in the same year after leading the nation's most potent offence – which included his three offensive counterparts invited to the national combine.
Three more Dinos will aim to join that quintet in Toronto based on their performances at the regional combine in Edmonton on March 23. Linebacker
Tanner Doll, defensive lineman
Tyler Langlais, and receiver Chris Dobko – who completed his time with the Dinos after the 2013 season – will all attend the regional event in the hopes of earning an invite to the main combine. In 2014, the regional combines accounted for 14 additional invites to Toronto, with 13 of those players getting drafted – including Dinos kicker
Johnny Mark.
The Dinos are busy preparing for the 2015 season under newly-named head coach
Wayne Harris. The team will take the field for Spring Camp at McMahon Stadium April 29 through May 3.
