Youthful Dinos face Vikes in home opener

| By:
CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos head into their second weekend of the 2013 Canada West field hockey season and will host the Victoria Vikes, Sept. 21-22.

After coming off some tough loses in Vancouver last weekend against the UBC Thunderbirds, the Dinos have a lot to prove heading into their home opener. The Dinos only scored one goal over the weekend, whereas the T-Birds scored a total of 14.

The Vikes will open their season up in Calgary this weekend. The Vikes will look towards defenders Rosie Beale, Alanna MacDonald and Andrea Jones to anchor the back line, while keepers Sheriden Goodmanson and Larissa Pivawill share duties between the pipes. Through the midfield, national team member Kathleen Leahy along with Kirby will be the focals to generate attack and control the center of the pitch. Up front the speed and tenacity of Kurianowicz has already proven effective and paired with the talents of fourth-year Kayleen van der Ree and rookie Emily Bennett, the Vikes are sure to boast success from front to back.

Last season, the Dinos went 0-3-1 against the Vikes, recording their only tie of the season on Oct. 7 in Victoria.

The Dinos will re-match the Thunderbirds on Hawkings Field Oct. 5-6 after taking a weekend off.
