Huskies turn tables with OT victory

| By:
SASKATOON - Unlikely hero Evan Schafer scored an overtime goal for the University of Saskatchewan Huskies to give his team a 2-1 victory over the visiting University of Calgary Dinos Saturday night at Rutherford Rink.

BOX SCORE

Schafer's goal beat Calgary netminder Dustin Butler with just nine seconds left in the extra five minute frame on a scramble in front of the net. It was Schafer's first goal of the season and just his second point in 2009-10. The fourth-year defenceman has four career goals including Saturday's game winner.

With the win, the Huskies move to 13-7-4 on the season, while Calgary drops to 11-9-6. Saskatchewan now sits in a tie with the University of Manitoba Bisons for second place in the Canada West conference with 30 points. Calgary remains on the heels of the two teams in third place with 28 points. The Huskies have four more games remaining on the 2009-10 schedule, while Calgary has just two.

The win turned the tables on Calgary. The Dinos defeated the Huskies 3-2 in overtime Friday night at Rutherford Rink.

Teegan Moore opened the scoring in the game at 16:03 in the first period on a power play to give the Dinos a 1-0 lead. Calgary had the man advantage after Huskie defenceman Zach Sim was caught for high-sticking.

Moore's goal held until 14:19 in the third period when Huskie rookie Andrew Bailey was able to beat Butler to notch the game at one.

Huskie forwards Kyle Ross and Bailey each had two points in the game.

Butler made 33 saves in the game for the Dinos, while fifth-year goaltender Jeff Harvey stopped 25 of the 26 shots he faced in the game.

The Huskies will remain at home to host the University of Manitoba Bisons next weekend in a battle for second place and a home playoff game, while Calgary will return home to host the UBC Thunderbirds.
