CALGARY - Hawkings Field in Calgary will be the home of a critical matchup in the Canada West standings this weekend as the second place University of Victoria Vikes face off against the fourth place University of Calgary Dinos.
This matchup is so important for the 2-5-1 Dinos because, with four games to go, they are in the fourth spot in Canada West. The top three teams in Canada West will advance to the CIS championships and the Dinos are within one point of leapfrogging the third ranked Alberta Pandas.
The 3-2-3 Vikes are in a less pressure-filled position, sitting comfortably in second spot four points ahead of Alberta but still trailing UBC by six.
The Dinos roll into this game with a fair bit of confidence after upsetting the first place Thunderbirds last weekend to split their two game series.
The Vikes come into this series after a home stand that saw them tie and then defeat the Pandas in Victoria.
The last time these teams met the Vikes walked away with a 1-0 victory and a scoreless tie.
Look to Dinos goaltender
Stephanie Petrowitsch and Vikes 'keeper Kaitlyn Williams to put up solid defensive statistics on the weekend.
The matchup will happen on Oct. 17 and 18 at Hawkings Field in Calgary with both games beginning at 1 p.m.
