Defensive-back-turned-middle-linebacker Sam Hurl was a bright spot for the Calgary Dinos in Saturday night’s season-opening loss to Saskatchewan.

Playing his first CIS game at linebacker after moving from his usual halfback position, Hurl was all over the field on defence for the Dinos. He racked up 12.5 tackles on the night including 11 solos, 2.5 tackles for loss, and a sack to lead the Dinos defensively and nearly double the next-highest total of the night – Saskatchewan safety Bryce McCall’s seven.

Hurl is a student in the Haskayne School of Business. He and the Dinos return to action Friday night when they host the Regina Rams at McMahon Stadium in the University of Calgary’s annual KICKOFF homecoming game.
