Dustin Butler continues to lead Canada West goaltenders statistically – but of his eight wins on the season, none were bigger than the two he earned over the No. 3 Alberta Golden Bears last weekend.
Over the two-game sweep by the Dinos, Butler posted a sparkling 1.00 goals-against average, a .957 save percentage, and a shutout as Calgary came out on top in the latest edition of the provincial rivalry with a 3-2 win in Edmonton and a 1-0 shutout in Calgary.
Friday’s win was the Dinos’ first at Clare Drake Arena since October 2006, and the series marked the first sweep of the Golden Bears since January 2008 – also at the hands of Calgary. Butler’s Saturday night shutout was the first time Alberta had been blanked in Canada West play since October 2005 – again, also by the Dinos.
The third-year netminder, who was the November/December Husky-WHL Graduate of the Month, boasts a 1.92 GAA and a .935 save percentage on the season – both conference-bests. Butler, a former Prince Albert Raider, heads back to Saskatchewan this weekend as the No. 9 Dinos (11-6-2) face off with the No. 7 Saskatchewan Huskies (11-7-0) at Rutherford Rink in Saskatoon.
