Matt Walter, the reigning Canada West MVP, had a career night Friday to lead the fourth-ranked Dinos to a 41-15 win road over Regina Friday night at Mosaic Stadium.
After opening the game with just three carries for 12 yards in the first quarter, Walter exploded to finish with 24 carries for 259 yards, a 10.8-yard average, accounting for nearly half of the Dinos’ total of more than 600 yards offence. He added one reception for 11 yards and a touchdown early in the third quarter, extending Calgary’s lead and sparking a 28-point second half.
Walter has broken the 500-yard mark in just three games, leading the conference rushing race by more than 120 yards. He also leads the conference with five touchdowns, making him the leading scorer in Canada West with an average of 10 points per game.
Calgary (2-1) hosts Simon Fraser (2-1) in a rematch of the 2008 Hardy Cup this Saturday at McMahon Stadium.
