University of Calgary Dinos forward Iya Gavrilova put up her best weekend of the season, scoring four goals and adding a pair of assists as Calgary swept Lethbridge in their best-of-three Canada West semi-final match-up.
The series win sets up a Battle of Alberta with the Pandas for the Canada West title next weekend, while it also earned Calgary a spot at the national tournament March 8-11 in Edmonton.
Friday night, Gavrilova scored twice in the Dinos’ 3-0 series-opening win. A night later, she put up her first four-point night of the season with a two-goal, two-assist performance as the Dinos hammered the Pronghorns 7-1. Her second goal was a beauty, taking a drop pass from Hayley Wickenheiser and roofing a snap shot top corner.
In her first season of CIS hockey, Gavrilova finished fourth in conference scoring with 15 goals, 12 assists, and 27 points in 21 games.
Gavrilova and the Dinos play host to the Pandas this weekend in the best-of-three Canada West championship series, beginning Friday night at 7:30 p.m. The series will be played at WinSport’s Markin MacPhail Centre at Canada Olympic Park.
