Reigning CIS player of the year Graham Vigrass wasn’t ready for his career to come to an end just yet.
Vigrass was the leader as the University of Calgary Dinos extended their season by two weeks, earning a spot at the CIS championship for the third straight season with a hard fought 2-1 series win (3-1, 0-3, 3-1) over the Brandon Bobcats in Canada West quarterfinal action last weekend.
In the Dinos’ two four-set wins, Vigrass put up 17 kills in each while adding 15 in Brandon’s Game 2 win. He finished the weekend with 49 kills and a .372 hitting percentage. Vigrass, the 2011 Canada West BLG Award nominee, also added 21 blocks over the weekend and was his team’s leader with eight digs in the Sunday afternoon match that clinched a berth at the national tournament.
Vigrass and the Dinos head to Langley, B.C. for the Canada West Final Four this weekend before jetting east to Kingson, Ont. for the 2012 CIS men’s volleyball championship hosted by Queen’s University March 2-4.
