The Calgary Dinos are playing their best basketball of the season and are one of the hottest teams in the conference heading into the playoffs – thanks in large part to the outstanding play of fifth-year senior Tyler Fidler.
On the weekend, Fidler scored 30 and 26 on back-to-back nights as the Dinos swept the Winnipeg Wesmen, capping off an unlikely run to the playoffs. After starting 4-10 on the year, the Dinos won their last six in a row to finish at .500 and qualify for the postseason, where they will face either UBC or Victoria in a best-of-three conference quarterfinal Feb. 24-26.
Friday night in a 99-86 win, Fidler had his best performance of the season with a 30-point outburst, adding seven rebounds on 9-of-13 shooting from the field and just 29 minutes played. A night later, he recorded his third double-double of the season with a 26-point, 10-rebound effort – with all 10 boards coming off the defensive glass in a 94-78 win.
He finishes his career with 1,547 points – good for fourth on the Dinos’ all-time list and No. 17 in Canada West history.
