Markham, Ont. – Alexanne Lepage capped a historic weekend Saturday at the 2026 U SPORTS Swimming Championships.
Lepage opened the day by setting a new Canadian senior record in the women's 50-metre breaststroke, clocking 29.91. The previous mark of 29.96 was set by former Dino Amanda Reason in 2009.
It marked Lepage's second national record of the meet after breaking the women's 100-metre breaststroke mark on Friday.
Lepage returned in the evening final to win gold in the women's 50-metre breaststroke, securing her fourth individual gold medal of the championships.
Ian Cameron added a bronze medal in the men's 50-metre breaststroke, while the Dinos women earned silver in the 4x100-metre medley relay. Calgary finished the meet with 11 medals.
"I think we swam really well. So many best times," said Dinos head coach
Mike Blondal. "The men's team was awesome, so many impressive performances from a team with a lot of rookies. On the women's side, we came in with a smaller team, and I think they did really well point-for-point."
All eyes were on Lepage in the women's 50-metre breaststroke final following her record-breaking swim in the morning. The third-year Schulich School of Engineering student was challenged early by Eloise Allen of the UBC Thunderbirds and Shona Branton of the Western Mustangs. After the turn, Lepage pulled away to secure gold with a time of 30.08.
In the men's 50-metre breaststroke, Cameron continued his strong showing at the championships. The Dino surged in the final metres to edge swimmers from the Lethbridge Pronghorns, UBC Thunderbirds and Brock Badgers, touching the wall in 27.49 to claim bronze.
It marked Cameron's third individual medal of the championships.
Although it did not result in a podium finish, one of Calgary's strongest team performances of the weekend came in the men's 1500-metre freestyle. Across the two heats,
Zackary Bowie,
Hunter Payne and
Aiden Gyorfi placed fourth, fifth and sixth in a competitive field.
The Dinos women returned to the podium in the final event of the night. In the 4x100-metre medley relay, the team of
Hannah Johnsen,
Jasmine Nicols, Lepage and
Eliza Housman finished second in 4:00.57.
The meet concluded with UBC capturing both the men's and women's team titles. Calgary placed third in the men's standings for team bronze, and fourth in the women's standings.
