Dinos Women's Soccer - Canada West Quarterfinal
Friday, Oct. 30 | Calgary vs. Victoria | McMahon Stadium | 7:00 PM | Buy Tickets | Live Stats

For the third successive year, the Dinos will face off against the Victoria Vikes in the quarter-finals of the Canada West playoffs. The two teams have shared the postseason bragging rights in that time, as Calgary claimed a narrow 1-0 win in last year's game, with Sofia DiGiacomo getting the game's only goal late in the second half. A victory would see the Dinos host the Canada West final four the following weekend.

The Dinos finished the regular season with a record of 12-2 and enter the playoffs as the top ranked team in the prairie standings. Diogo Raposo's team began the season by sweeping the Manitoba Bisons on the road with 2-1 and 5-0 victories and built momentum from there. They went on to earn another ten consecutive wins, earning first place in the standings for the third year in a row. Calgary have since suffered back-to-back defeats to the MacEwan Griffins and Alberta Pandas to close out the season, but will no doubt aim to tap into the form which helped them secure home field advantage. Ella Djuranic ties with DiGiacomo as the leading scorers for the Dinos with six goals each, with Erica Mysko close behind with five.

Meanwhile, the Victoria Vikes closed out their regular season with a 2-1 win against the Fraser Valley Cascades to cement their record at 4-3-7. After trying their opening three games, the Vikes would have to wait until their eighth game of the season to taste victory, with Ruby Nicholas' solitary goal enough to give them a 1-0 win against UBC Okanagan. Victoria then found some form and closed out the year unbeaten in their final four matches helping them claim the fourth and final playoff spot.

Player to Watch: Mykena Walker: The versatile defender has started in every match for the Dinos this season, scoring twice and assisting four times in 14 matches.

Dinos Men's Soccer – Canada West Quarterfinal
Friday, Oct. 30 | Calgary vs. Thompson Rivers | McMahon Stadium | 4:00 PM | Buy Tickets | Live Stats

The Dinos men's soccer team have also had a season to remember, equaling their program record for most wins in a regular season with nine and finishing atop of the prairie rankings.

Calgary opened its season in style, defeating the defending Canada West champions Mount Royal 2-0 at McMahon Stadium. And after finding themselves at a record of 2-2, Ramon Mifflin's team went on to record five consecutive wins with an aggregate score of 14-1 to put themselves in pole position for a playoff place. A 2-1 road win against Saskatchewan confirmed their hosting rights at the playoffs, and a victory this Friday would set up a tie against the winner of the University of Alberta Golden Bears and the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades.

After starting the season with four straight wins, Thompson Rivers concluded their regular season with a record of 7-7-1. Kaelin Nguyen is their top scorer for the year with four goals, with Alessandro Comita shortly behind on three goals in eight appearances from midfield. With their playoff position already confirmed, the WolfPack lost their final regular season match to the Trinity Western Spartans.

Player to Watch: Joey Pleznik: Operating as a defender, the -year has also contributed to three assists for the Dinos.

Saskatchewan, however, enter the season as the back-to-back U SPORTS National Champions after defeating the UNB Reds 77-68 in Quebec. Under the helm of Lisa Thomaidis returning for her 28th season, the Huskies enter the season as the No. 2 ranked team in the preseason coaches' poll, despite a substantial turnover to the roster. With five fifth-years graduating, it'll be a new-look squad for Saskatchewan with a young team of nine first-years.

The Dinos take on a Saskatchewan team that have not made the playoffs for the past two season, but are bolstered by the return of Easton Thimm, who led the nation in rebounds last year, averaging a 16 point, 12 rebound double-double per game. The former Rookie of the Year is joined by fellow teammates Dylan Miller for his veteran year, and third-year guards Owen Murphy Wiebe and Mohamed Jabateh who will be keen to step into more significant roles for the Huskies.
