CALGARY – Alexanne Lepage and
Kamryn Cannings each won four individual events, and the University of Calgary Dinos women won all three of their relays, as the Dinos wrapped up their annual Dinos Invitational on Sunday at the UCalgary Aquatic Centre.
The Dinos hosted the University of Toronto Varsity Blues and University of Lethbridge Pronghorns in a two-day meet scored as separate dual meets each day. Calgary won 15 of the 38 events, including 11 of 19 on the women's side. The Dinos women beat Toronto 79-71 on Saturday before the Varsity Blues edged them 90-88 on Sunday. The men fell to Toronto 85-65 and 94-86. Both Calgary teams beat Lethbridge on both days: the women 98-43 and 113-46, and the men 98-42 and 117-42.
"I was pretty happy for an in-season meet," said Dinos head coach
Mike Blondal. "We don't get to race U of T like this very often, and Lethbridge, so I thought we did really well. Lots of really good in-season times compared to last year."
Lepage won the 100 breaststroke (1:05.69), the 200 individual medley (2:15.47), the 200 breast (2:25.67) and the 400 IM (4:45.39), taking the 400 IM by more than nine seconds. Cannings won the 50 backstroke (28.27), 100 butterfly (59.74), 50 fly (27.02) and 200 fly (2:16.42).
The pair also anchored the Dinos' relay wins. Lepage, Cannings,
Ella Howe and
Calli Saunders took the 200 medley relay (1:51.59) and the 400 medley relay (4:04.79), finishing the 400 nearly five seconds clear of Toronto. Cannings, Howe and Lepage teamed with
Katie Graboski to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:41.95, edging Toronto by 0.20 seconds. Saunders was second in the 100 back (1:03.32), and Howe was second in the 100 free (56.41).
"I think some of the rookies swam really well," Blondal added. "The women's relays all set club records, and that really impressed me."
For the men,
Aiden Gyorfi won the 400 free in 3:56.45, one-hundredth of a second ahead of teammate
Zack Bowie. Bowie won the 800 free on Sunday in 8:14.22, with
Hunter Payne second in 8:21.39.
Ian Cameron won the 50 breast (28.43), and
Carter Scheffel took the 400 IM (4:30.60).
Addison Butler was second in the 100 free (49.99), and
Nick Duncan was second in the 100 fly, 0.18 seconds behind Toronto's Eric Ginzburg. The Dinos men finished second in all three relays: by 0.35 seconds in the 200 medley, 0.33 in the 200 free and 1.82 in the 400 medley.
The Dinos will return to action Saturday, Nov. 7 and Sunday, Nov. 8 at the University Cup in Vancouver.
