Dinos open WCSA week #1 in Calgary

Manyika Reyes's Big Day Propels University of Calgary Past Mount Royal University 
Manyika Reyes drove in four runs on two hits to lead the Dinos  past Mount Royal University 16-12 on Friday night. Reyes doubled in the first inning, scoring two runs, and singled in the fifth inning, scoring two. 
Both offenses were strong at the plate as the Dinos  collected 18 hits and the Cougars nine in the high-scoring affair. 
The team  got on the board in the top of the first inning after Emily Friedt doubled, scoring one run, Hallie Miller singled, scoring one run, Brooklyn Bianchini singled, scoring one run, Reyes doubled, scoring two runs, and Olivia Goertz singled, scoring two 
Mackenna Meyer singled to center field on a full count, which helped University of Calgary tie the game at 10 in the top of the fourth.
 
Mount Royal University took the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Katie Thiemann singled, scoring two runs, to give Mount Royal University the advantage, 12-10. 
University of Calgary flipped the game on its head in the top of the fifth, scoring six runs on six hits to take the lead, 16-12. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Madison Belden that drove in two. Belden earned the win for University of Calgary. The right-handed pitcher allowed zero hits and zero runs over one and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking one. Mia Pielak stepped in the circle first for the Dinos,  Alexis Luttmerding appeared in relief. 
Dinos  piled up 18 hits in the game. Katie Berg and Angelina Hargreaves each collected three hits for University of Calgary. Friedt, Goertz, Miller, and Meyer each collected multiple hits. Katie Berg had 2 stolen bases in the game.
 
 Pielak's Big Day Propels University of Calgary Past UBCO Heat Softball 
Mia Pielak drove in five runs on four hits to lead University of Calgary past UBCO  14-10 on Saturday morning. Pielak doubled in the first inning, scoring three runs, and doubled in the second inning, scoring two. 
Dinos  collected 14 hits and UBCO had 12 in the high-scoring affair. University of Calgary jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Angelina Hargreaves singled, scoring one run, and Pielak doubled, scoring Dinos  added to their early lead in the top of the second inning when Chloe Kinghorn singled, scoring one run, and Pielak doubled, scoring two runs. 
Dinos added to their early lead in the top of the third inning when Emily Friedt singled, scoring two runs, and Kinghorn hit a sacrifice fly, scoring  
Madison Belden earned the win, he right-handed pitcher gave up 12 hits and 10 runs (four earned) over five innings, striking out five and walking two.  
The team  collected 14 hits in the game. Friedt and Brooklyn Bianchini each collected multiple hits for University of Calgary. Katie Berg paced University of Calgary with four walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, collecting seven walks for the game. Berg stole two bases.
 
University of Calgary Dinos and SAIT Trojans tied 6-6 on Saturday. 
Dinos were the first to get on the board in the third when Emily Friedt singled, scoring one run. The team  scored five runs on four hits in the top of the fourth inning. An error scored one run, Samara Sawyer induced Parker Huot to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, Katie Berg singled, scoring one run, and Mia Pielak singled, scoring two runs. 
Anna Forbes stepped in the circle first the hurler allowed three hits and five runs. Pielak drove the middle of the lineup, leading the team with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Pielak, Friedt, Berg, and Mackenna Meyer each collected two hits for the Dinos who worked the count all day, piling up four walks.
 
University of Calgary had trouble keeping up with University of Victoria in a 13-7 loss on Sunday morning.
Brooklyn Bianchini homered to center field, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth for  the team, her first career homer. Madison Belden took the loss for the Dinos, the starting pitcher went four innings, surrendering six runs (four earned) on six hits, striking out one and walking two.  
Dinos collected 13 hits in the game. Manyika Reyes led the team with three hits in four at-bats. Bianchini and Reyes were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in two runs.  Angelina  Hargreaves and Katie Berg each collected multiple hits for the team. 
 
Dino fall short to Mount Royal University 5-2 on Sunday afternoon.  
The Dino  got on the board in the first inning after Mia Pielak singled, scoring one run. A single by Pielak extended the lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the 
 Anna Forbes took the loss, the right-handed pitcher went two and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on two hits. Alexis Luttmerding started in the circle for the Dinos, the leftie allowed four hits and two runs over four innings. 
 Pielak and Emily Friedt were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits. Pielak drove the middle of the lineup with two runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. The team was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. 
 
 
On the weekend head coach Neal Harlos commented, " we had our ups and downs on the weekend, we had a couple of games I feel we should have won and could have easily finished 4-1 on the weekend. I have a lot of confidence in the team, we just need to keep working hard at practice and work on some of the details of the game and we will be fine."
