CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos (2-1) continue their road swing with their lone regular-season matchup with the UBC Thunderbirds (1-2) Friday night from Thunderbird Stadium.

HEADLINES
- UBC won both games last year in the head-to-head showdown. A field goal and rouge with less than a minute to play gave the T-Birds a 32-30 win in Calgary back in Week 5 before slogging to a 21-5 rain-soaked win at home in Week 7.
- After a run of nine straight wins for the Dinos in Vancouver that spanned from 2009-2019, UBC has won the past two home games against Calgary.
- Friday's meeting will be the only meeting between the two squads this season.
- The game serves as Homecoming for the Thunderbirds.
Calgary Dinos (2-1)
Next week: vs. Saskatchewan
- Despite being without five opening-day starters, Calgary turned in an impressive 23-19 win in Edmonton last weekend to move to 2-1.
- The Dinos are an overtime loss to undefeated Regina in the season opener away from sitting at 3-0.
- With over 50 newcomers on this year's roster, it's no surprise to see a number of rookies step up in big ways already this season. Last week, it was a pair of first-year running backs in Eri Olarubofin and Jabreel Yahaya. Olarubofin made his first start last weekend and ran wild for 155 yards on just 17 carries and the game's winning score with less than a minute remaining. Meanwhile, Yahaya dressed for his first U SPORTS game and didn't disappoint either, racking up 58 yards on the ground on just six attempts.
- Vince Triumbari was named the Canada West Special Teams Athlete of the Week for the second time in the first three weeks of the season on Tuesday. Triumbari has now earned the honour five times in his career.
- Calgary returns to McMahon Stadium for a Week 5 tilt with Saskatchewan at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
UBC Thunderbirds (1-2)
Next week: at Alberta
- UBC is coming off a 37-20 home loss to Regina last weekend. The T-Birds cut a 20-6 halftime deficit to just three at 23-20 heading into the fourth, but the Rams pulled away and capped things off with a 10-play, 65-yard scoring drive in the game's closing seconds to win pulling away.
- The Thunderbirds' run defence has allowed 200+ yards rushing to all three of its first three opponents on the season.
- Friday's contest against Calgary will mark the first unranked opponent UBC has gone up against so far this season.
- The T-Birds have had both fifth-year Derek Engel and first-year Drew Viotto take meaningful snaps under centre so far this season. Viotto heads into the weekend 38-61 for 474 yards and 4 touchdowns, while Engel is 31-44 with 2 passing scores through the first three weeks.
- Fifth-year linebacker Kinsale Philip has been a force for the UBC defence so far this season, leading all of Canada West with an average of 9.0 tackles per game.
- UBC starts the second half, where they will play three of their final four regular season games, at Alberta next Friday night.
