CALGARY – After four seasons on the ice with the Calgary Dinos, graduating defenceman
Zach Wytinck has signed a professional contract to play with IF Troja-Ljungby in Sweden.
Wytinck finished up his Dinos career this past season. He was one of just seven players to play in all 31 games on the year. The 5-foot-11 defender tied his career high with 19 points in the regular season on three goals to go with 16 assists - tying him for the most on the team and placing him seventh most in all of Canada West for defencemen.
"I'm really excited for the opportunity to play pro hockey overseas," Wytinck said. "I'm thankful to all the coaches, staff, the training staff at Bold Athlete, my family and all my teammates for their support over the years.
"The University of Calgary gave me the tools and resources to grow as a student-athlete and I could not have enjoyed my time as a Dino any more than I did."
The product of Glenboro, Man., joined the Dinos in 2020 and finished his four seasons on the ice with the Dinos earlier this year. After playing in 16 games as a rookie during the 2021-22 season, Wytinck has been a mainstay on the backline for the Scarlet & Gold and has played in all but eight regular season games over the past three seasons. Over that span, he racked up 56 points on 14 goals and 42 assists while helping the Dinos win their first conference title since 1996 and advance to the national championship tournament two times.
Wytinck came to Calgary after four seasons in the Western Hockey League (WHL), starting with the Brandon Wheat Kings before finishing up with the Regina Pats.
IF Troja-Ljungby is located in Ljungby, Sweden - a city of nearly 16,000 residents located in the south central part of the country. They were crowned champions of the 38-team HockeyEttan last season after a 5-1 win in the decisive Game 5 of the championship series to earn a promotion to the HockeyAllsvenskan league this coming season. The HockeyAllsvenskan - the second-highest league in Sweden - is comprised of 14 teams. The 2025-26 season is scheduled to start in September.
