CALGARY – An incredible six members of the University of Calgary Dinos women's soccer team were named to the various Canada West All-Star squads Friday morning, as announced by the conference office.
Just a few hours before they take the field for their postseason opener,
Brooke Batty,
Sofia DiGiacomo,
Isabella DiPalma and
Mykena Walker were all named to the Prairie Division All-Star team, while both
Addi White and
Marlee Portas were named to the Canada West All-Rookie squad.
The six total selections tie for the most in program history, equalling the mark set in both 2017 and 2018.
Batty exploded out the gates this season, racking up a five-point game in the season-opening win, headlined by an incredible four goals to go with one assist. The second-year forward followed that up with another two goals just one day later. In all, Batty finished her first full season on the pitch with a team-high seven goals and 11 points, with the latter finishing third in Canada West and ninth in all of U SPORTS this year.
This is the fourth all-star selection for DiGiacomo, who was an all-rookie honouree back in 2019 before earning a second-team nod in 2022 and a first-team pick in 2023. She successfully returned to the field this season after missing all of last year with an injury and continued her run of dominance as an enforcing midfielder. In addition to her defensive presence, DiGiacomo added another three goals – including one game winner – to go with two assists this season.
The all-star selection is the first for DiPalma. The fifth-year midfielder has been an impactful player for a number of years now and finishes this season ranked second on the team in goals (five), assists (three) and points (eight). Two of her goals proved to be game winners this season, upping her career total in that category to seven.
Walker rounds out this year's Prairie Division All-Stars, earning the recognition for the second time in her career after being named to the all-rookie team back in 2022. The tenacious defender finished with a career-high two goals on the year – both game winners – to go with a pair of assists. She also helped the Dinos allow just six goals against all season – easily one of the best totals in all of U SPORTS this year.
For the rookies, White earns the selection despite being limited to just five conference games after suffering an injury. Her ability was immediately evident, however, perhaps demonstrated most obviously with her banger of a game-winning goal against MacEwan back in early September. Portas made six total appearances in conference games, including a pair of starts while making her impact felt.
This marks the eighth consecutive season Calgary has had at least one all-rookie selection since the introduction of the award back in 2017. It also marks the fourth straight year multiple Dinos have been named to the 11-player squad.
Calgary finished the regular season with an 11-1-2 record to win the Prairie Division for the second straight season. The Dinos open their postseason run Friday, hosting Victoria at McMahon Stadium at 6 p.m.
