CALGARY – An impressive four members of the University of Calgary Dinos field hockey team brought home postseason awards with the conclusion of the 2025 Canada West season Sunday afternoon.
Julia McDermott was named the recipient of the Canada West Outstanding Contributor Award, while
Molly Garnham,
Isabella Green and
Victoria Zaccagnini were all named to the CW All-Star team.
McDermott has exemplified the spirit of the Gail Wilson Award through her leadership, community engagement, initiative, and dedication to growing the game.
Throughout her five years with the Dinos, Julia has been more than a key contributor on the field — she has been the heart of her team's connection to the community. She has served as the driving force behind numerous community initiatives, including the Dinos for the Cure fundraiser, which unites student-athletes, alumni, and fans in support of cancer research. She also led the Dinos' Community Day, introducing field hockey to youth across Calgary, and spearheaded the team's Oktoberfest Fest, fostering deeper connections between the Dinos, the university, and the wider community.
An Academic All-Canadian with a 3.5 GPA, Julia has balanced excellence in the classroom with remarkable impact off the field. She has left a lasting impact on the Dinos program and the Calgary field hockey community, making her a truly deserving nominee for the Gail Wilson Award.
"Julia has made a measurable and lasting impact on our program and community through her consistent leadership and initiative," Calgary head coach
Jenn Beagan said. "The events she's led have introduced new athletes to the sport, strengthened community ties, and helped shape a team culture that values involvement beyond the field."
For the Dinos' all-stars, this marks the incredible fourth year in a row
Isabella Green has been selected to the elite squad, joining Carolina Romeo (2009-12) as the only other Dino to earn that distinction in program history. Green - the 2022 U SPORTS Rookie of the Year - had yet another standout season on defence. One year after earning her first CW All-Star recognition a season ago,
Molly Garnham earned a spot on this year's all-star team, again as a defender, while second-year midfielder
Victoria Zaccagnini earned her first postseason honours after making a big jump in her second season in the Scarlet & Gold.
