Wheels up to Winnipeg

CALGARY – The University of Calgary Dinos (2-4) hit the road for the final time this regular season, travelling to Winnipeg to take on Manitoba (3-3) for a Week 2 rematch with the Bisons. Saturday's kickoff from Princess Auto Stadium is scheduled for Noon MT, with the game once again streamed live on Canada West TV.

HEADLINES
  • Calgary is looking to end a three-game skid, with two of those three losses coming by a combined seven points.
  • Manitoba is looking to clinch a playoff berth with a win on Saturday.
  • The Dinos and Bisons met back in Week 2 of the 2025 season. Manitoba led 7-0 at the break, but Calgary's offence came to life in the second half. The Bisons nearly tied things up in the game's closing seconds, but elected to go for a two-point conversion and were unsuccessful in a 15-14 Dinos win from McMahon Stadium.
  • This is arguably the closest this head-to-head series has ever been in its storied history, with the two teams splitting the last 10 Calgary-Manitoba battles. After a run that saw the Dinos claim 20 wins in 22 games against the Bisons, Calgary heads into Saturday with a 66-42 lead in the all-time series.
  • The home team has won 9 of the last 10 in the series, with Manitoba's win in Calgary last year being the only road win in the series over that span.

Calgary Dinos (2-4)
Next week: vs. Alberta
  • Calgary is coming off an 18-12 road loss to Regina in Week 6 before last week's bye.
  • The Dinos were held out of the end zone for the first time all season and just the second time in the Ryan Sheahan era in that game at Regina.
  • The return game has turned into a difference maker this season for Calgary, thanks in large part to the play of Trey Loupelle. The first-year receiver has returns of 48 and 56 yards in recent weeks and has over 500 total return yards already this season between kicks and punts. Teams have clearly started find ways to keep the ball away from Loupelle, as last week Regina adjusted mid-game and started kicking the ball short, only to see linebacker Connor Jones erupt for a 44-yard return of his own.
  • Another notable bright spot for the Dinos this season has been the play of its defensive line. Six different players have registered at least 0.5 sacks so far this season, with rookie Crown Otoro leading the way with 3.5 through six games - third most in Canada West. The 11 sacks as a team has them tied for the third in the conference and has already surpassed the entire final season total from each of the past four years.
  • The Dinos close out the regular season at home, hosting Alberta at McMahon Stadium next Saturday, Oct. 25 at 1 p.m.

Manitoba Bisons (3-3)
Next week: at Saskatchewan
  • Manitoba sits at 3-3 through the first six weeks under first year head coach Stan Pierre.
  • A win on Saturday would clinch a playoff berth for the Bisons for a historic seventh year in a row.
  • The Bisons are looking to finish 4-0 at home for the second straight regular season. Manitoba's last home loss dates all the way back to a 35-25 loss on Oct. 20, 2023 at the hands of Alberta.
  • The combination of Jack Shaffer and Jordan Friesen have made Manitoba's defensive fronts one of the best in terms of getting to the quarterback in the nation this season. Shaffer leads all of Canada West with 4.5 sacks this season, also ranking him sixth in U SPORTS. Friesen sits tied for fourth in the conference with 2.5 sacks, thus far.
  • Manitoba closes out the 2025 regular season with a trip to Saskatchewan next Saturday.
