Struggles continue as Dinos fall to Alberta

EDMONTON – Two goals in each the first and second periods propelled the Golden Bears to a convincing 5-1 win over Calgary at Clare Drake Arena.

Justin Hall scored twice, to go along with tallies from Tyler Preziuso, Sean Tschigerl, and Ty Nash. Tyler Palmer made 14 saves on 15 Calgary shots, as Alberta earned the series and season sweep as the two provincial rivals battle just the two times all season.

Saturday's contest never felt in doubt, with the Bears holding a 25-10 shot advantage and 4-1 lead through 40 minutes. In total, nine different Bears found the scoresheet, as Alberta improves to 16-4-0 with back-to-back wins.

Brendan Lee scored the lone Calgary goal, who were playing shorthanded for the second consecutive night. Carl Tetachuk made 25 saves on 30 Bears shots, as he suffered his sixth loss of the season, with the Dinos dropping to 10-8-2 after the weekend sweep.

Alberta's first tally came just 72 seconds into the game. Preziuso jammed in a puck that was lost under Tetachuk, as his eighth of the season gave the Bears an early lead.

Tschigerl doubled that lead shorthanded later in the first, with his conference-best 14th goal giving Alberta a 2-0 lead through 20.

Hall scored the first of his two on the night midway through the second, sending a spinning shot from the circle over Tetachuk's shoulder.

Lee's second of the season two minutes later gave Calgary some life. Nash restored the Bears three-goal lead before the second period was up, keeping the puck in at the line before beating Tetachuk low-blocker for his fifth of the campaign.

Hall added an insurance marker in the third to seal the win for Alberta.

The top-seeded Bears will host Regina next weekend in an Eastern Division clash, while Calgary will be off.
