WINNIPEG –
Myriam Kone poured in a game-high 22 points, while
Mya Proctor and
Pollyanna Storie each added 13 as the Calgary Dinos women's basketball team opened the second semester with a 66-48 win over Winnipeg Friday night from the Duckworth Centre.
The win moves the Dinos to 6-3 on the year, while Winnipeg falls to 4-5.
The home squad got hot early and jumped out to an early 8-2 lead, but Calgary responded with a 14-2 run – sparked by nine points from Proctor – over a 2:23 stretch to close out the opening frame with a 16-9 edge.
It was all Kone in the second, as the third-year guard erupted for 12 points in the quarter. Add a pair of
Lilia Skumatova triples and the Dinos built a 38-23 edge at the half.
Winnipeg kept things close in the third, outscoring Calgary 15-14. Jazmin Birch led the way for the Wesmen with nine points in the quarter on a perfect 3-3 shooting from the floor to go with a pair of free throws.
But the Dinos iced things away by shooting 58.3 percent overall in the final 10 minutes to coast to the road 'W'.
Overall, Calgary finished the night shooting 43.3% from the floor and held Winnipeg to just 1-14 (7.1%) from three in this one.
The Dinos also finished with a sizeable 28-9 edge in points off turnovers and a 21-14 margin in bench points.
