Jhony Verrone

A member of the Dinos men's basketball national championship team in 2018, Jhony Verrone joined his former team as an assistant coach in 2023. Prior to returning to campus, Verrone spent time as a coach with Genesis Basketball, a club program based in Calgary, and he has coached in the Dinos' Develop program for many years.

A native of Montreal, Que., Verrone played five seasons with the Scarlet & Gold from 2013 to 2018. Recognized for his versatility and attention to detail, he averaged 6.0 points and 2.5 rebounds and totalled 121 assists and 85 steals in 97 Canada West regular season games. During his final season with the Dinos in 2017-18, Verrone was named the conference's defensive player of the year.

Verrone captured Canada West titles with the Dinos in 2016 and 2018. On the national stage, he won a silver medal in 2016 and a U SPORTS championship in his final collegiate game in 2018 – the first men's basketball national championship in UCalgary history. 

Verrone earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Calgary in 2019.
