REGINA –
Dallon Melin scored the game winner with just one minute remaining and
Carl Tetachuk made 21 saves on 22 shots to send the Calgary Dinos men's hockey team to a 3-1 road win over Regina Friday evening from the Co-operators Centre.
With the win, the No. 10 Dinos move to 5-3-1 on the year, while the Cougars dip to 1-8.
The game stayed scoreless until the third when Regina broke through first. The Cougars won a faceoff in their own attacking zone and sent the puck down to Carson Whyte. The lefty wristed a shot from a tough angle that ate up Dinos goalie
Carl Tetachuk and found a way into the net to finally give this game a goal after nearly 45 minutes of scoreless action.
Calgary responded back just a few minutes later. After being stonewalled by third-year goaltender Adam Evanoff through the first two periods,
Jadon Joseph came out of the penalty box at the perfect time for a breakaway chance and didn't miss, tying things up at 1-1 with 11:21 left in regulation.
Dallon Melin then put the Dinos ahead with just one minute remaining on his second of the year. The second-year forward hammered a loose puck from close range to give Calgary its first lead of the game 59:00 in.
Max Patterson added an empty netter 21 seconds later to put the cap on this one and send the Dinos to their third win in a row.
The two teams are right back at it Saturday at 4 p.m. MT.
