Four Dinos named to CW All-Star squads

CALGARY – Canada West announced its 2024 women's soccer all-star teams Wednesday, and the Calgary Dinos were once again well represented.

Four Dinos in total were named to the all-star squads – Grace Moore and Jayden Berg were both named to the first team while Isabella Burtini and Rowyn James were announced as all-rookie selections.

This marks the second year in a row and the fifth time in the last seven seasons the Dinos have had multiple first team nods, while the Scarlet & Gold lead the way now with 12 CW All-Rookie honourees since the award's inception in 2017.

Moore had a golden foot this season, exploding for 12 goals – doubling the output for her entire previous three years on campus. The 12 goals were the second-most in Canada West and tied for fifth-most in the nation this year. Three of her goals proved to be game winners, while she also dished out three assists on the year for 15 points – also good for second most in the conference this season.

Berg had another impactful season in her fourth and final year on the pitch for the Dinos. The versatile midfielder netted five goals to go with three assists for eight points – second most in her career. It marks the second all-star selection for Berg who was both a CW and U SPORTS All-Rookie back in 2021.

The future is once again bright as the Dinos with Burtini and James helping lead the way. Two highly impactful rookies, Burtini made her presence felt right in her collegiate debut with a pair of assists the season-opening win. The Delta, B.C. product finished her freshman campaign with five goals and seven assists for 12 points in 13 games. Meanwhile, James closed out the regular season with five goals, three assists and eight points. The Calgary native scored twice in her debut in the Scarlet & Gold and tallied the game winner in a road victory over Manitoba on Sept. 28.

Calgary posted an 11-2-1 record in the regular season to claim the top spot in the Canada West Prairie Division. The Dinos will now host UBCO Friday at 4:30 p.m. for a CW Quarterfinal matchup. A win would send Calgary to the CW Final Four, which they would also host the following weekend.
